Story of Faith: Peter Walked On Water

Beloved Family,

In this week's Story of Faith, we reflect on one of the most powerful moments recorded in Matthew, the day Peter walked on water.

The Bible tells us that the disciples were in a boat in the middle of a violent storm. The wind was raging, the waves were crashing, and darkness surrounded them. Fear gripped their hearts as they struggled against forces they could not control. To them, it seemed as though all hope was slipping away.

Then, in the midst of that storm, they saw someone walking on the water toward them. Terrified, they thought it was a ghost. Their fear only grew stronger. But Jesus Christ saw their troubled hearts. He saw their fear, their confusion, and their desperation. Immediately He spoke words that still bring comfort today:

"Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid."

Peter recognized the voice of his Master. Deep within his heart, he knew it was Jesus. So he answered, "Lord, if it is You, tell me to come to You on the water."

Jesus simply replied, "Come."

Without hesitation, Peter stepped out of the boat. He did not wait for the opinions of others. He did not ask for approval from the other disciples. He did not calculate the risks. He responded to the voice of Christ and stepped into what seemed impossible.

As recorded in Matthew 14:28-30, Peter walked on the water as long as his eyes remained fixed on Jesus. The waves were still there. The wind had not stopped. The storm had not disappeared. Yet none of those things had power over him while his focus remained on Christ.

But the moment Peter shifted his attention from Jesus to the storm around him, fear entered his heart. He saw the strength of the wind. He noticed the height of the waves. He began to focus on the danger instead of the Savior. And the Bible says he began to sink.

How often do we do the same?

There are seasons when life feels like a storm. Financial pressures rise like towering waves. Family struggles shake us. Health challenges test our strength. Disappointments, failures, and unanswered prayers can make us feel as though we are drowning. Sometimes the darkness becomes so thick that we begin to wonder if God still sees us.

Yet the story of Peter reminds us that Jesus never abandoned him in the storm.

The moment Peter cried out, "Lord, save me!" Jesus immediately stretched out His hand and caught him.

What a beautiful picture of God's love.

Peter was not saved because he was strong. He was saved because Jesus was near.

Perhaps your faith has grown weak. Perhaps you have prayed and waited without seeing the answer you hoped for. Perhaps you feel tired, discouraged, or forgotten. If that is you, remember this: the same Jesus who reached for Peter is reaching for you today.

Your victory is not determined by the size of your problem. It is not determined by the strength of the storm. It is not determined by what people say about you or what circumstances seem to predict.

Your victory is determined by where you place your focus.

The waves may still rise. The winds may still blow. The storm may still rage around you. But when your eyes remain fixed on Jesus Christ, you can stand in places where others expect you to fall. You can find peace when others are overwhelmed. You can walk forward by faith when the world says it is impossible.

Today, do not focus on the storm. Do not focus on fear. Do not focus on the voices that tell you to give up.

Fix your eyes on Jesus Christ.

He is still the Savior who walks on troubled waters, the Helper who reaches for those who are sinking, the Light that shines in the darkest night, the Hope for the hopeless and the Strength for the weary.

No matter how far you feel from Him, call upon His name. He has not forgotten you. He has not abandoned you. His hand is still extended toward you.

Keep looking to Christ, and He will carry you through every storm until you reach the other side.

"Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith." Hebrews 12:2

    Fear kills,we need to confront our fears with the word of God so as to conquer it,Peter had faith in Jesus Christ hence he was able to walk on the water but immediately he realised he's human fear came that's why what ever we do we should have faith completely in God and we'll Sai through in Jesus name Amen
